Podcast: Mental Illness Happy Hour

First off, isn’t the name of this podcast fabulous? Happy hour that is about building emotional wellness rather than tearing it down. That’s something we all need. Anyway, I had a delightful conversation with Paul Gilmartin, creator of the show that is on numerous “best of” podcast lists. The NY Times calls it “A perversely safe place for Paul and his guests to talk about their fears, addictions and traumatic childhoods.”

The safe place part is what those of us who speak about our experience on the sidelines of someone else’s addiction hope to create because we know we didn’t feel safe. We speak because we want to feel safe again. We speak because by speaking, we help others feel safe even if they can only listen and haven’t yet found their own voices. I hope you enjoy.
